The front cover of the NME is targeted at males between the ages of 16-24 with a passion for music. Passion is portrayed by the title colour which is red; a colour which symbolises passion. Noel Gallagher is modelling as the main image which will appeal to the target audience as he is a popular figure amongst that age group, especially those who are into their music .However ,Noel Gallagher - as well as REM, positioned across the top- may appeal to an even older audience as they are both established artists who have been around for a long time. Moreover ,Noel is stood in a spotlight and casting a shadow which could imply there is another side to him away from the spotlight ,thus making the featured article seem more appealling. It may also reference the song "Cast no shadow" ,one of many songs that made Noel Gallagher famous. Additionally, the font selected on the left hand side looks familiar to that of a young male- the target audience. A font like this is relatable for the target audience. Equally ,a font like this would be considered scruffy or messy ,this could be a connotation of what the article may contain as some of the content in the article may seem improvised and possibly shocking and will therefore be more interesting. Also, a font like this may give the impression that the article ,and in fact the whole magazine, do not follow a stereotype and are both in fact individual and unique. This will appeal to the target audience as it is a popular trend amongst those most likely to read NME to be "indie" or different from the crowd. Moreover, the coverlines to the right hand side of the magazine all convey a similar genre which will appeal to the audience as they all have things in common relating to the subject of the magazine. As well as this, the stories related to the coverlines are shocking which will amuse the target audience. As the target audience is young males, a coverline that includes an Arctic Monkeys "sex tape" is very likely to appeal to them and may perhaps draw them in to buy the magazine. The model used (Noel Gallagher) is making eye contact with the reader. This could appeal to the target audience as they may feel he is starring at them. By doing so ,the audience feel more involved in the article and the artists life, which could be positive as it is likely they aspire to be like him; musically at least. Furthermore, it'll make them feel as though they can relate to the artist, which may also act as an emotive for them to buy the magazine. The title NME is also partially covered by Noel Gallagher's head, this implies the success of the magazine as they assume people instinctively recognise the brand name. Equally, neutral colours like grey and white make up the background ,so that they do not draw any attention away from the important aspects such as:title, feature image and model. These are important elements as it's what draws the target auience.
